Dwayne Heggar


  

 Bass Guitar Lessons
Dwayne is one of the premier bassists in the D/FW Metroplex, instructing beginners as well as advanced bassists in JAZZ, ROCK, POP, Funk, GOSPEL, Reading Notation and Music Theory along with the approach to playing Keyboard Bass.

 
 

Dwayne was born in Mexia, Texas, home of the legendary Blues singer, Blind Lemon Jefferson (1827-1929), and home of famous country songwriter Cindy Walker as well as actress Anna Nicole Smith and Ray Rhodes, defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

 

Dwayne attended Mexia High School and then went on to college at McLennan  College in Waco, Texas where he was an honorary graduate as the first student in the country to receive an honorary Degree. His degree was The Commercial Music degree, specializing in learning and studying all styles of music from country, R&B, progressive rock, jazz and urban contemporary, while studying to play multiple instruments as well as studying recording and music business. While attending MCC, Dwayne also attended Baylor University as part of the introduction to the Commercial Music and later attended the University Of North Texas to study advanced arranging.

 

Dwayne has been playing the bass guitar since the age of 17. As a young musician, he played with local R&B bands, honing his skills. Dwayne started touring in the early 1980’s as the opening act for National R&B artists such as Midnight Star, The Barkays, Slave, Zapp & Roger Troutman, Lakeside and LTD.

 

Dwayne’s experience is expansive, as he has played and shared the stage with well-known artists such as Bernard Wright, Greg Bissonett, Bobby Kimbel (Toto), Kurt Covington (Scott Henderson Band), Frankie Lee (National Blues Artist), Eartha Doucett (daughter of the late Joe Tex), Johnny Taylor (Blues Artist), the late Z.Z. Hill (Blues Artist) and many other recording artist of many genres. Additionally, Dwayne has played in jazz settings with Reba McIntyre’s background vocalist Suzy Hoskins and pianist Robert Sanders and a host of many great local musician as a jazz sideman just to name a few before joining Texas Tornado’s Jazz vocalist Jeanette Brantley for three years before moving to the Pop and R&B scene where he spent three years with Dallas local band Dallas Brass and Electric.

 

Dwayne’s bass skills have also been witnessed in a number of well-known musicals, including Grease, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Madame Butterfly.

Recording

Dwayne has recorded on numerous projects from local to National Radio commercials to local and nationwide artist...He is also currently producing several Artist and co writing jingle ads...

 

TV Appearances

Dwayne has made a lot of TV appearances over the years
(1994-present) that was shown locally, regionally, and world wide. Here is a list of shows:
SPORTS WAVE-With Mike Doocey (Fox 4 Sports anchor) and ex-Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson.... CALL IT LIKE IT IS- with Deion Sanders and Fox Sports anchor Pam Oliver..... NET TALK LIVE-with Jovan, that were shown world wide.... GOOD DAY DALLAS-local morning talk show.....

 

Presently Dwayne is a member of nationally known band Emerald City which he has been a member of for 31 years .  With Dwayne’s playing experience and national recognition, he clearly ranks as one of the premier bass players in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and  just was inducted by Buddy Magazine as The  2022 Texas Tornado Bassist!
